A 22-year-old man has been arrested following the serious sexual assault in Winnipeg of an 11-year-old girl over the weekend.
The young victim was picked up by a man in a car as she was walking alone near the corner of Arlington Street and Alexander Avenue around 3 a.m. Saturday.
She was driven to a secluded area on Elgin Avenue, a few blocks away, where she was threatened and sexually assaulted. She was later dropped off near the area where she had been picked up.
Winnipeg police released a description of the attacker and a photograph of a car in the area at the time of the assault earlier this week.
Wednesday\'s arrest came as a result of assistance from the public and the media, investigators said.
Charges are pending. Further information is expected after charges are laid.
On Tuesday, a police spokesperson revised the date and time of the incident to 3 a.m. Sunday morning, rather than 1 a.m. Saturday, as previously reported.
On Wednesday, however, the force\'s public information office confirmed the time was 3 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.
